View Full Version : background-image
Has anyone had a problem that when you use background-image in an external stylesheet it will not display in nn4? I've never had any problems of this sort before and this is putting a big hult to my site and I can't figure out what it is. It's making me quite upset!
Background images in layers (i.e. divs or td or anything else like that) had *major* problems....the main one being that if you placed a background image in, say, a div that was 400 x 400, and then put a couple of divs as child layers, the background image in the parent div would be repeated (i.e. begun again) in each of the child layers...same goes for a table: if you set the background image for a table, it is re-begun for every cell in that table. If you try to nest tables, it still repeats. Bummer.
I would definitely *not* recommend using background images for an NN4 site, because it's too much of a pain in the ass to get it working correctly (basically because it doesn't).
Can't we just drop this damn browser? Didn't anyone take a look at the specs article at www.13thparallel.org last month?
No, not in divs. For the actual background.

Here's something I ran into... If the stylesheet is external and is not in the same directory as the html file and the url to the image is relative, then NN4 assumes the url is relative to the location of the css file, whereas other browsers use the location of the html file as the url's base.
I may have that backwards... its been a while since I experimented with it.

would people please stop coding for netscape 4!!!!
if everybody stopping coding for the most fcuked browser on earth, all the sad gits who use it would have to upgrade to either netscape 6 (which isn't that bad), or preferably Mozilla or IE6..
here's a bit of trivia for you: Netscape 4 was being developed while Windows 3.1 was still the standard - years ago!!!
this really annoys me, because you get some smart-arses who email you saying "your site is crap - i tried it and it botched up" - and then procede to say that they were using Netscape 4 - WTF!!!
