I was wondering if anybody had this problem before. A link that opens a new window will not do anything for me in ie5.5 sp1.
Let me give you a little bground first. I installed Win 2000, it comes with IE5.0. I then installed Visual Studio, then IIS. There wa ss security issue that kept Visual Studio from operating properly, I had to register some stuff in the registry. I have that stuff it would help....
Anyway, after doing that, the links to new windows stopped working, so I upgraded to 5.5 with sp1, still no go.

Another problem related to this is that if it is javascript that opens the new window, and not html, I get an Access is Denied error ( always on a different line ).

I have checked the security settings for my browser, but that didn't seem to be the problem. I really don't want to have to reinstall the OS again!

btw... I also have Netscape 4.77 and 6 on this same computer and they work fine.

Any kind of help or direction pointing would be great!

Sorry, no help, but some commiseration. I never installed IE5.5 on my old system because I didn't want to lose the ability to test scripts in IE4/5.

So now I have a new PC with IE5.5 and... it's the biggest bag of worms. There's a lot of little annoyances, just enough to keep me offcenter all the time. But the worst, the WORST involves popup windows. If a page pops a window or tosses up a dialog, it blows my history out. It's still present in the back button drop-down and in my history cache, but the pages are unavailable unless I go offline. If I hit an Angelfire page or look at a profile here, every click on the back button causes a full re-fetch of the page. REALLY annoying when you're in a forum and trying to read posts without refreshing the front page so you don't lose unread postings. Ugh... My IE5.01 was virtually trouble-free. Is this a bad browser, or is it just you and me?

Thanks for the sympathy DC. Owell, I have searched the microsoft knowledge base high and low and I can't find anything about this problem for ie5.5. I would just leave it but it makes it twice as hard to navigate websites and even to test my own. ....well, back to debugging microsoft problems! <img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle>
