View Full Version : My Menu
Hi. I am new to the DHTML game, but I know that Bratta is held as a deity! What I have done is created this DHTML menu. Just to get some replies, tips, feedback etc from viewing my menu. The URL is:

That's a pretty nice, light weight system you have there. It doesn't work cross-browser though.
Maybe you could neaten it up a bit by making the menus the same width as the button.

I suck at making menus... I learned from my Javascripting book and it is way too long of a script... and it looks aweful.
Does anyone know of any tutorials that can help me fix that?

After that... You will have to be patient.
You can't rush on making something neat and creative.
If you really want to create some menues... get the DOM & CSS well under control.
You might want to look up Thomas's DOM tutorial for beginners.
Then if you encounter problems. Ask others for assistance.
I hope that works out!
Hey Jeff,
Great Work! Are you anti-netscape too?

thanks Dan - I fixed up the width.
As for Netscape, I have used it only once...with nothing good to report
I really couldn't be bothered to change it for layers etc...
But I thought that generally anything that works on IE5.5 works on NS6
Correct me if I am wrong

I think thats the reverse of the truth, Almost everything that works on Netscape 6 works on IE5.5 (exceptions being mouse handling and such).

really? could you tell me where I could find info like this on browser incompatibilities?
Thanx

Well, NS6 and Mozilla only support DOM and a few NS specific parts.
IE5-6 support DOM and 4-6 support the document.all system.
NS4 supports its own system of looking at layers as html documents.

*million dollar question*: so which is the better browser?

Well, NS6 is unstable at best. Mozilla is on the same level as NS6, but getting better. IE is fast, convienent, and powerful, but it is tied directly in to the windows explorer system, so if you crash IE, Windows will sometimes crash. NS4 has some powerful features, but is weak in the field of standards.
Aside from crashing problems, IE is the best.

Well once again, I have to disagree! IE5, on windows 98 sec edition hardly ever crashed. I have Netscape 4.7, and when it reads anything like position: relative, it crashes, and locks up. IE ever hardly crashes, so I think it wins hands down!
But you are right, when it does crash, usually explorer goes with it, and restarts itself!

Thomas, I just think rank names should advance more quickly.
Brian, there are only like 5 different ranks I believe.. So if they went up to fast wouldn't give you anythign to work towards hehe. There may be a way to change the number of ranks I don't know though.
