http://www.chronicfrog.org is my website.
Currently I have one scrolling text div on the news page
I want to add another
advice needed on that (posted in scripts forum)
and advice needed re default fonts and splash page.
should I ditch the splash page? I cant decide whether it adds value or detracts it.
I had my default font set to Silkscreen but changed it cos I had a few people say the the all caps of Silkscreen was tiresome if they actually wanted to read my crap.

What do you all think?

all caps does make text tiresome to read...
as for the splash page...maybe u should just set ur news page as the default home page... u know..have a "latest news" stuff on ur first page...
an empty splash sort of defeats the purpose of having a splash page...

still, great job on the site...
very clean and simple...nice graphics too : )

appearance-wise, it looks pretty good (and I won't hold the fact it was designed for a higher res than standard against you).
You should put the news on the front page as anders suggested.

BTW: I love the title "design & crap" it summarizes just about all my work.

};

hey natalie (i assume :) ) - beautiful work. The color is super rich and I really like it. very simple and clean. good work!

my only problem is that the scroller is so-x fast on my computer :(. I can't control it. I suspect that you created this on a mac or win 9x computer - or perhaps a slower win2k or NT box?

not that I'm trying to plug myself ;), but you should really use a dhtml scroller wich uses variable framerate animation to avoid this problem. I happen to have developed just such a scroller, and it's available at http://www.youngpup.net/components/ypSimpleScroll.

keep up the good work.

Guys, (and girls?) thanks heaps for the wonderful feedback.

I have slowed the current scroller down to a fraction of what it was.

Also, I am changing back to having my news on the front page - it was their originally but I changed it - dont know why as it seems the initial instinct I had was correct.

All your wonderful feedback and comments have been really great to receive - its good to have critism as well as kudos - that way the site gets better ::))

Im currently working on the new layout which will have two dynamic text scrollers on the one page - ABOODMAN - can your script be adapted to run multiple times on the one page?

If it can be then I will be a rapt girl :)

PS: yes, I did create it on a win2k box (damn fast box it is too yum yum) - at 1152 res... but I did test it in 800 res - I test all my sites... the only thing I didnt really take into account was the damn scroll speed. I didnt realise it would be faster for others and slower for the minority.

So on Monday the new version will be live and you can all go and test it again (and boost my hits ;p)

Im hoping I can keep this design more than a month - Ive changed the site design 14 times in 10 months because I cant stop working on new ideas... I think I will have to showcase different designs in the design section rather than updating the entire site all the time.... oops Im starting to ramble.... :)

Thanks RAD for the kind comments

I use Fireworks with EyeCandy and Extensis plugins for all my layout and image work.

I then use Notepad and Dreamweaver to tweak the exported code and refine the layout.

Hi JACOBUS, I have tested the code in IE 5.01 and all the nav worked fine.. can you be a little more specific? Is it a particular error message? The nav is just an image with hyperlinks so its not any fancy smancy code like the scroller.

Let me know the errors so I can try and get it fixed for you :) Im about to go over to my NT box and test it there... but as I tested it in win2k it should be the same :

PS: Tested the site in Netscape 4.05 and 4.75 and in IE 5.01 and 5.5 ::))

Well I tested it on the NT box running IE 5 - no issues there. I do notice that it is a little slow to 'grab' the link and change the pointer so that you know you are over it - I will try to improve this when I re-launch over the weekend.

ABOODMAN thanks for the script - I havent had time to try putting it into a page twice yet - will do that tomorow - phew what a busy evening!

Well normally you will get this problem if you have a layer over lapping the nav, becuase the first two items are fine but not the rest. I have not looked at you code yet, but I think that's what it is , I had the same problem some time ago.

check your layers <DIV>'s

Just check your code, and I think it was the div. My advise would be drop your nav into a div and make sure the z-index are higher that the layer with the website content

the reason way this might happen is when the content grows in the web site layer

Cheer
hopes this help
