Here is a crappy site for you. I came across this site while doing some research for work about state vehicle license and registration fees:
http://www.state.nm.us/tax/mvd/mvd_home.htm
Not only was this page created in FrontPage 3.0. It appears to have been created in 1996 and not touched since. Also, they used Microsoft's "marquee" tag, so it is only displayed correctly in IE!
There certainly are some good examples of what not to do on this one!! :)

you shouldn't knock other people's work. keep your opinions to yourself.
comparing yourself to a bunch of crappy sites isn't going to get yo anywhere.

The author of the site that I knocked did not ask for my opinion, so I probably should have kept my opinion. I just thought it was a bit sad that the Motor Vehicle Division of New Mexico takes so little pride in thier web presence. In fact thier site actually provides a disservice to it's visitors, because the site has not been updated to reflect the current information. In actuallity it probably wasn't too bad of a site when it was created, but it does not live up to the expectation that I have for a professional web presence of a government agency.
Frankly, I think that there should be some level of exectation that must be met for any web site. Those expectations can obviously vary based on the content and the entity behind the web site. In the case of a site for a government agency which is designed intirely to give information, IMHO it is reasonable to expect that information to be accurate. But my original critique was on the design of the site, not the content.
Although the design/layout of this type of site merits lower expectations than a portal or a corporate site, there is still an expectation of professional presentation which the linked site simply does not have.
I hope I made myself clear. This is not ment to attack you, Paul, or even the author of the site. It is ment to explain my opinion of the site that I had linked, and why I feel justified to express that opinion.
I would like to say that I would have never expressed such a negative opinion towards someone's personal website if they had not expicitly asked my opinion [But when asked I would certainly give my honest opinion].
Please let me know if you think I am off base in having expectations for websites. I would certainly like to hear another point of view.

hi nathan,
feel free to express any opinions on any sites whatsoever...that's why we have this category here (cool sites)...though this topic is for lame sites..still, this is a place to voice any comments u have on any sites...good or bad....
hi paul,
there are differences between mocking other people's sites and giving good/bad comments...i think nathan is only telling us his opinion of the dmv site..not making fun of it....

it was aimed at EEP really. i just think its wrong to mock people's work, just because you can do it better. fair enough, tell someone you think their work stinks, but tell them in a constructive way so they have a chance to learn and improve their work.
paul
agree w/ u 100% ; )

<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>Paul,
You are very right in that ultimate goal of sites like this is to improve and learn [and help others do the same], not to mock or slam peoples work.
