View Full Version : a test.
here's test design I was considering. i haven't bothered coding it yet, I'd rather actually make changes to the design before I start coding so that I don't need to redo both later on if I need to make changes.
well, anyways here it is: please tell me ANYTHING you don't like about it or any suggestions you might have.
note; content not mine as I have yet to type it and I'm still waiting to get a digital camera.

does anyone have any thoughts as to how I might want to implement dhtml into this design in the future?
edit : can you guys also rate the resign from 1-10? and tell me why.

FuDOG,
I think I like your feel for design [which makes perfect sense why you are creating a site on the subject]. I can definately understand why you want the site to be attractive and useful since your motto is "A Designer's Guide to Form and Function™".
Overall, I think the design is something like a 7-8. It is clean, and professional, but it looks to me like a brochure for a bank. So it may be a bit to "institutional" for your subject matter.
The only specific problem I can see with the design may have more to do with the antielastizing [sp?] of the fonts than the design. The currently selected page does not really stand out in the menu as much as it should. I don't think it needs to be bold, simply being white while the other menu elements are grey should be enough when the font is more crisp. If it is still not enough maybe make the other menu items a little darker or a washed out orange instead of grey.
As far as DHTML. The menu looks like a perfect candidate for a foldout menu [I suspect you already had this in mind]. Other than that I can only think to animate certain elements when the page loads. For example the "FuDOG" text at the upper left could slowly rise from nothingness into it's current position. The problem with that idea is it may lead the viewers eye away from the content. Another possibilty for DHTML animation would be to have the word "Design" start on the left side of the picture and then slowly slide to the right into place. If you want to take that idea one step further... You could continue to move the readers eye to the content by haveing the word "EMPHASIS" not visible when the page loads, and once the "Design" slides into place then "EMPHASIS" can cycle colors from white to black [through grey]. Just a thought....
I still must say I like your sense for design.
Nathan
