the <embed> tag is not defined in the w3c html 4 or xhtml 1.

how are you meant to put flash movies into a site that validates using the w3c validator?

the w3schools website even has a tutorial for flash that tells people to use the <embed> tag!

XHTML Transitional (haven't looked in strict yet, but I'm assuming that it's the same for this) does not define the EMBED tag, but does define the OBJECT tag, which is what is supposed to be used for things like Flash and any other block content that requires a plug-in.

Hope it helps.

Although you can use a custom DTD, just using the OBJECT tag would be the best route (if possible).
